Below are the questions, as discussed in open session, January 5, 2008.

1.     What can we do as Battalion Staff to encourage and promote participation of individuals and units within the Battalion?

2.     What are you prepared to do, as Company Commanders, to promote individual participation, ensure communication; and bolster recruitment for the foreseeable future?

3.     What events, large and small, should staff effectively promote for the future?

4.     Is there anything Staff needs to do to help you in your job as Company or Unit Commander?

Here are the answers to these questions:

·         The Web Site could be improved by posting a list of individual unit events and linking unit web sites (send this to the webmaster)

·        Ensure communications- make sure we communicate and cooperate with one another- drill and use Hardee's C. S. Drill Manual.

·        Communicate “Passion”- put enthusiasm in place.

·        The 2 Majors (wing commanders) need to be held responsible to communicate with unit commanders --- they should have personal contact with unit commanders and company commanders.

·        Units need to talk to one another before the Battalion Meeting in January; if each of the 20 units present here today were to bring 5-10 troops to an event, we could have a 200 man strong battalion; we need to take everyone to battalion events.

·        Do more events on a regular basis.

·        We have a shortage of Federals at events; we need to do more Federal impressions for the love of the hobby; especially at smaller events to keep sides even; sacrifice to go north for events so that those that live in the north will come south. Everybody needs to do their part to play Federal from time to time; Attend 1 day as Confederate and 1 day as Federal.

·        We need to promote new experiences, discipline, and structure into the day’s activities at events.

·        Go to new events you haven’t been to before.

·        If you voted to go to an event as a battalion event, go anyway, even if the battalion didn’t approve it; each company that votes to go to an event, bring bodies to add strength; strength in our battalion numbers is exciting.

·        If possible let’s produce a video for recruiting; or have a website for drill instruction…

Army of Northern Virginia unit members, twelve through fifteen years of age (inclusive), may participate, with appropriate supervision, in such scenarios as functional musicians or as other unarmed, non-combatants in historically accurate impressions only by permission of their respective Army of Northern Virginia battalion or regiment commanders. No person, under the age of twelve years, shall participate in any capacity on the field during such scenarios. No part of this rule shall prevent Army of Northern Virginia battalion or regiment commanders from implementing cadet, Junior Reserves, or other youth programs for reenactors twelve through fifteen years of age (inclusive) for participation at such events. 3.      Under Duties of the Battalion Officers – L. The battalion commander shall appoint a treasurer of the battalion. The treasurer will receive and disperse funds as directed by the battalion commander, and will give a financial report at the battalion convention.
